July 7, 1999

KAPALUA, Maui, Hawaii -- "This Month at the Mercedes Championships" features news from Kapalua's Plantation Course and the 2000 Mercedes Championships, Jan. 6-9:

Mercedes Championships Scores Prime-Time Coverage

Give your remote control a rest in January. There will be no need to hunt for reruns of Hawaii Five-0 or Magnum P.I. to find a satisfying blend of island life and action. ESPN plans more than 10 hours of live, prime-time coverage of the 2000 Mercedes Championships from Hawaii. The tentative broadcast schedule (Eastern Standard Time):

Thursday, January 67 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Friday, January 77 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, January 88 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Sunday, January 98 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Tryba and Waldorf Headed for Hawaii

This June, Ted Tryba (FedEx St. Jude Classic) and Duffy Waldorf (Buick Classic) each earned their second career PGA Tour victories to qualify for the Mercedes Championships at Kapalua's Plantation Course. Multi-winners Tiger Woods (Memorial Tournament) and Payne Stewart (U.S. Open Championship) had already secured Mercedes spots with earlier victories.

Karsten Manufacturing Takes Care of the Mercedes Championships

Gift giving will spread into the new year in January as Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, the Official Equipment Supplier of the 2000 Mercedes Championships, will include the TiSI PING driver in each Pro-Am tee-gift package. Unlike that sweater you got from Grandma, the club will fit. During tournament week, each amateur will have the opportunity to have a custom fitting at the new Kapalua Golf Academy.

Mercedes Championships to Benefit Charities

Kapalua Maui Charities have announced the local organizations that will benefit from the 2000 Mercedes Championships: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Maui, Inc., Friends of the Children Advocacy Center of Maui, Inc., Girl Scout Council of Hawaii, Hospice Maui, J. Walter Cameron Center, Lahainaluna High School Athletic Department, Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc., Maui Junior Golf and The Art School at Kapalua.
