Recently, the Kapalua Tennis Club was named the 1997 Club of the Year by the Hawaii Pacific Section of the United States Tennis Association. The Kapalua Tennis Club is comprised of two facilities, The Tennis Garden and The Village Tennis Center. Kapalua Head Professionals Kim Carpenter and T.J. Hyman received the award on behalf of the club at the USTA/Hawaii Pacific Tennis Association Tennis Weekend on Oahu.
The award, given out by the HPTA each year, recognizes Hawaii facilities that promote Tennis in Hawaii. Among the achievements The Kapalua Tennis Club was nominated for were its support of both adult and junior tennis development programs. Kapalua also served as a host site for two State tournaments and the USTA Adult Sectionals this past August; was again ranked in the Top 50 US Tennis Resorts by Tennis Magazine; provides a yearly scholarship to Maui County students and has a great staff.
Kapalua Head Professional Kim Carpenter said, "Its an honor to be named as the Tennis Club of the Year. Our staff is instrumental in developing tennis programs and in the successful running of the state events. We couldnít do it without them."
Head Professional T.J. Hyman added, "We are happy to support the local tennis programs any way we can. Itís especially great to see the growth of the local youths over the years in the tennis program. Many have started off in our keiki tennis clinics and have graduated to participating in our state tournaments."
The Kapalua Tennis Club is comprised of two facilities, The Tennis Garden, located near the Kapalua Bay Hotel, and The Village Tennis Center, located near The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. Each facility features 10 plexi-pave courts for day and night play, as well as full-service pro shops and snack bars.
