and Village Course Clubhouse in New Millennium
Kapalua's metamorphosis continues with a $15 million development encompassing a state-of-the-art Kapalua Golf Academy and a new Village Course Clubhouse.
Located at the entry of the Kapalua resort, the Kapalua Golf Academy and practice facility designed by Hale Irwin, Kapalua's Senior PGA TOUR Touring Professional, will offer a unique state-of-the-art golf facility unmatched in Hawaii. The new project features 85,000 sq. ft. of grass teeing area, several practice putting greens, greenside and fairway bunkers, an 18-hole putting course, minimum of eight target greens and specialty short game area.
The Kapalua Golf Academy will utilize the spacious practice areas for group and individual teaching and, in addition, will feature an approx. 3,500-square foot facility to house classroom instruction, video taping and physical training. Kapalua's staff of over 25 PGA Golf Professionals, the largest in the state, will offer a wide variety of instruction. Programs will utilize indoor/outdoor "instruction bays"; computerized video for swing and putting analysis; teeing area with practice/learning stations for all-weather instruction; as well as private lessons, daily clinics, and two- and three-day golf schools.
Completion of construction for the Golf Academy is scheduled March 2000.
Part of Kapalua's project will also include a new 27,000-square foot Village Course Clubhouse, which replaces the existing clubhouse. The new facility will feature Kapalua's largest golf retail shop, restaurant, a multi-purpose conference room, and a resort communication and computer hub. The design concept will be reminiscent of the plantation era with art and interior design complimenting Kapalua's past history. The clubhouse is slated for completion in May 2000.
"With three diverse golf courses and a learning center such as this, there will be few resorts that can match Kapalua's golf presentation and amenities," said Hale Irwin.
Kapalua is a 1,650-acre master-planned resort community on Maui's northwest coast. It encompasses three championship golf courses (The Bay, The Village and The Plantation Courses); nine residential projects; two hotels (The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, The Kapalua Bay Hotel); a villa and home vacation rental program (The Kapalua Villas); two 10-court tennis facilities; and a myriad of shops and restaurants.
