Pu'u Kukui Nature Walk
September 7, 2006
(or inclement weather day, September 8, 2006)

The Kapalua Nature Society will offer only eleven individuals a "once-in-a-lifetime" nature walk through Pu'u Kukui Preserve, one of Hawaii's most biologically rich regions and the site of some of the state's last strands of pristine native rainforest.

In the morning of the hike day, participants will be flown via helicopter to the 5,788-foot Pu'u Kukui summit of Mauna Kahalawai (a.k. West Maui Moutains). The hike will take place on the existing 16-inch wide, 2-mile long Pu'u Kukui Boardwalk. Participants will descend to approximately the 4,500 foot elevation. An interpretive tour, led by Maui Land & Pineapple Company's Pu'u Kukui Watershed field naturalists, will focus on the unique flora and fauna found there.

Discussions will include details of the innovative management agreement with the State of Hawaii's Natural Area Partnership Program and specific operations designed to preserve the natural biodiversity and watershed capacity of the area.

Cost: $1,200 per person
100% of proceeds benefit the Pu'u Kukui Watershed Management Program.
