Kapalua Prepares Plantation Course For Mercedes Championships

While the world readies for Y2K, the Kapalua resort is preparing the 7,263-yard Plantation Course for the Mercedes Championships, which will feature the winners from the 1999 PGA TOUR's official money season. Kapalua implemented play restrictions Nov. 15, limiting hours of play (7 a.m.-noon) and keeping all golf carts on cart paths. "Limiting play will allow Kapalua to present The Plantation Course in the best possible shape," said Gary Planos, tournament chairman.

Unique Auction Items Benefit Tournament Charities

Kapalua Maui Charities, host organization for the Mercedes Championships, will be holding its annual silent auction during tournament week. The auction will feature approximately 200 unique items, including an autographed jersey from New York Yankee pitcher and five-time Cy Young award winner Roger Clemens, an autographed U.S. Women's World Cup Championship soccer team ball and various golf memorabilia.
