However, after the landmark decision by the Masters to eliminate this qualification, the Mercedes Championships is now the only event on the PGA TOUR where winning an official PGA TOUR event automatically guarantees entry into the field. Kapalua's Plantation Course Ranks in Golfweek's Top 100 Kapalua's Plantation Golf Course was recently named as one of Golfweek's Top 100 Modern Courses. Golfweek's national panel of course raters compiled the 2000 list, published in the March 13 issue. A dozen architectural elements were considered including fitness of the golf course with the natural and cultural surroundings, overall land plan, condition and strategic flexibility of layout. Sutton Wins Again; Singh, Cink and Allenby Qualify for 2001 Mercedes Championships Vijay Singh (Masters), Stewart Cink (MCI Classic) and Robert Allenby (Shell Houston Open) qualified for the 2001 Mercedes Championships with victories this month. Meanwhile, PLAYERS Championship winner Hal Sutton earned his second win of the year at the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic. The field for the 2001 Mercedes Championships now boasts eight of the world's top 14 players.
