KAPALUA, Maui, Hawaii -- The overnight ratings for the 2000 Mercedes Championships have set a record for golf programming on ESPN. Sunday's broadcast, which captured Wood's dramatic win with 40-foot putt for birdie on the second playoff hole against Ernie Els, drew a 3.5 rating * (2.7 million households).

The ratings for each of the four days of this elite champions-only tournament were up significantly over 1999 (6.3 million for all four days of the tournament), from 10 percent for Thursday's first round to 43 percent for Sunday's final. This was the second year for the Mercedes Championships at Kapalua's Plantation Course, and the second consecutive year the tournament has been aired live in prime-time on the East coast.
